Underlayments are installed under the shingles and flashings and provide an extra layer of defence against moisture intrusion.

SBS Base Sheets are a rolled roofing product installed under the shingles on the eaves and valleys of the roof. This is a thick, heavy product which provides lots of extra protection against water intrusion on these vulnerable areas of the roof. It is required as part of building codes. Malarkey Right Start UDL is what we install as a standard eave underlayment.

ice and water shield 

​Ice and Water Shield is offered as an upgrade to SBS Base Sheets on the eaves and valleys. Ice and Water Shield adheres directly to the roof deck which provides additional protection against water intrusion due to ice damming. This product is recommended on any roofs where there may be inadequate insulation, or inadequate ventilation due to the design of the roof.  If the roof slope is a 2/12 or 3/12 pitch Ice and Water Shield installation is required on the full roof. Malarkey Arctic Shield is the Ice & Water Shield we install when chosen as part of your roofing system.

Full Synthetic Underlay

Full underlay is recommended on all roofs. It provides peace of mind against inclement weather during installation, an extra layer of protection against leakage once the shingles are installed and it also provides an interface between the roof deck and shingles in the case of building movement and pris a barrier to any contaminants from the roof deck that could leach into the shingles and shorten their life. Synthetic underlays are installed instead of tar paper due to their resistance to tearing, light weight and better durability if exposed to weather. On Malarkey roofs Malarkey Secure Start underlay is installed with Rhino roof installed on IKO Cambridge roofs.
